Orange Soccer Scholars continued their unbeaten start to the season in style with a 5-1 win over Connell Sixth Form at Mythop Road.

Ben Turton scored the pick of the goals with a 25 yard drive into the top left corner leaving the Connell goalkeeper flat footed.

Finley Clarkson, Banjo McCarthy, Isaac Sinclair and Max Older were also on the scoresheet for the home side.

Connell pulled a goal back when they were 2-0 down through Rogers, but couldn’t find a way to break down an impressive Scholars side.

It took the home side five minutes to test Watkinson. McCarthy was found free in the box and volleyed straight at the keeper who palmed the ball up and away from danger.

The home side finally broke the deadlock after dominating for the opening 25 minutes. Sinclair played Salthouse through, he shot straight at the keeper who parried into the path of Clarkson. The striker was well composed to take a touch and finish.

They doubled their lead within four minutes. Turton brought the ball down well, drove at his opponent, sent him the wrong way with a step over and fired a rocket into the top left corner. He even went over to the camera to celebrate.

It could have been 3-0 just before half time. A great team move starting from Turner playing it out from the back. The ball was moved quickly up the pitch and a neat one-two between Clarkson and Sinclair put the latter through on goal but he missed the target.

Connell came out with a bit more confidence after not having much of the ball in the first half and took advantage when they had the chance. Only four minutes into the second half they halved the deficit. Skelton had time to find Rogers at the back post who looped his header over Turner to make it 2-1.

The Scholars kept the pressure up after they conceded and on 66 minutes the pressure paid off. Another well created team goal was finished by McCarthy who couldn’t miss.

Sinclair, a standout performer for Orange Soccer Scholars finally got the goal he deserved 15 minutes from time. Salthouse played him through on goal as the winger beat the offside trap and after two attempts he found the back of the net.

Within 90 seconds of scoring their 4th, the home team were given a penalty to further extend their lead. Salthouse was brought down in the box and stepped up to take the spot-kick. However the keeper stood firm and dived the right way to deny Salthouse a goal.

The fifth and final goal came on the 86th minute. Serghi carried the ball down the wing and picked out Older who was unmarked to comfortably execute a diving header into the bottom corner.
