Scholars Close In On Top Spot
Orange Soccer Scholars v Coaching Connexions Manchester
Orange Soccer Scholars capped off a well-rounded performance with a comfortable 3-1 win against Coaching Connexions Manchester at Poolfoot Farm, home of Fleetwood Town FC.
Isaac Sinclair scored a brace, the first from the penalty spot early in the first half and then a scorcher into the top corner from distance.
Finlay Clarkson put his name on the scoresheet to round off another victory for the Scholars.
Uchgbulam pulled one back for CC Manchester but his goal wasn’t enough to earn the away side a point.
The home side were dominant for the majority of the game and within eight minutes their
dominance from kick off prevailed. Sinclair was brought down in the area and the captain stepped
up and buried his penalty into the top right corner.
Orange Soccer made it 2-0 before the 15 minutes mark. Serghi had time out wide to deliver to an unmarked Clarkson who was able to take a touch and the volley home from eight yards out.
It could however have been 3-0 within two minutes of the second. This time it was Tommason who came close. He collected the ball on the turn and disguised a chip goal wards to only see his effort clip the top of the crossbar.
The closest the away side came in the first half was on 28 minutes. Their main threat, Uchbugulam
drove forward and powered an effort just wide of Turner’s post.
Coaching Connexions Manchester woke up in the second half and within two minutes they almost scored. A rare mistake from Reardon fell kindly for Uchbugulam who fired his effort just off target.
After missing a handful of chances, Uchbugulam finally scored for CC Manchester, halving their
deficit and making it 2-1. He used pace and strength to beat Butler and his shot was parried into the net by Turner.
The goal woke the Scholars up who went on to push and try and find a third to almost confirm
victory. They came close 15 minutes from time when Salthouse cut in on his favoured left foot and
curled an effort inches wide of the post.
Atkinson then came close himself with a thunderous strike from a quick free kick. The defender powerfully struck at goal, it looked to be a wonder goal before the swerve turned the ball onto the post.
The goal the Scholars were pressing for finally came with 10 minutes left to play. An absolute cracker from Sinclair. He picked the ball up on the half way line, ran forward, beat his man and smashed the ball into the top left corner from 30 yards out leaving the keeper scrambling.
Full Time score – 3-1.
The Orange Soccer Scholars are third in the league and Mens Knockout Trophy Quarter Finalists, set to play against Balby Carr Community Academy for a place in the Semi Finals.
