Finley Clarkson scored a brace for the home side and Isaac Sinclair scored a penalty late on to seal their place in the next round.
Hamilton Rescova was the goal scorer for the away side volleying in from 16 yards out.
The Scholars had their first chance after only five minutes. Sinclair had an effort on goal blocked but the ball kindly fell to Thomason who forced a good save out of goalkeeper Dawson to keep the scores level.

Rochdale Sacred Heart took the lead after the Scholars failed to take their early chances. Dawson punted a free kick into the penalty area, Greg Dyl leaped highest to head the ball on to Hamilton
Rescova who timed his volley perfectly to find the top corner leaving Turner with no chance.
But within four minutes the Scholars drew level. A sloppy back pass meant Clarkson was through on goal and the striker was calm enough to slot the ball under Dawson and continue his goal scoring form.
The home side had a big chance to take the lead just before half time. Gourley found Sinclair brilliantly with a 60 yard pass. The winger brought the ball down well and poked it beyond Dawson but Huszar was there to clear the ball before it crossed the line.
With nine minutes of the second half played, Salthouse and Sinclair linked well keeping the ball between them, Salthouse eventually took the shot on, however his low effort was no trouble for Dawson.
It was the 55th minute when the home team finally took a deserved lead after dominating most of the game to this point. A rare mistake from Rochdale’s Dawson meant Clarkson was again through on goal and that’s exactly what the striker did for his second of the game.
The Scholars then pressed well to build on their 2-1 lead and nearly made it three. McCarthy had two chances within 90 seconds but was unlucky with both. His first effort was all down to him. He showed strength to shrug his opponent off and take a shot on goal but Dawson saved well.
His second came via good work from Sinclair who deftly slipped a ball through to the midfielder who could only get his toes to connect resulting in an effort which lacked power.
Rochdale’s star player was goalkeeper Liam Dawson. Half way through the second half he made another fantastic save. It was Sinclair and Salthouse who linked up again but Sinclair had the shot this time forcing another decent save out of the keeper.
The away side had a 10 minute spell in the second half where all their chances came. Dyl picked the ball up and dribbled past Bell, the winger took the shot on but was the save was comfortable for Turner.
Whelan had a free kick from 25 yards out which was on target however was easy enough for Turner to catch.
Their best chance to equalise came five minutes from time. A free kick from out wide was whipped in and Longden glanced a header across goal only to find the roof of the net.
Four minutes before full time, captain Sinclair made sure the Scholars progressed to round three. The winger was brought down in the area earning his side a penalty and he himself took responsibility, sending Dawson the wrong way to seal the win and the Scholars place in the next round.
